There was a very real possibility that the American golfer would have withdrawn from the competition despite his position at the top of the leaderboard heading into Sunday with his wife expecting their first child.
He said before the final round: “Right now, the most exciting thing is not winning the Masters, it’s baby coming pretty soon.”

It gave an insight into the family life Scheffler prides himself on with Meredith a regular at every tournament on the PGA Tour schedule.
The childhood sweethearts married in 2020 having first met as freshmen at Highland Park High School.
Their relationship blossomed from a burgeoning friendship into a romantic partnership by their senior year.
That relationship was tested when they both got accepted into different colleges as Scheffler went off to the University of Texas while Meredith attended Texas A&M.
Just over 100 miles separated them for four years during their time at rival colleges, but they tied the knot just two years after graduating in 2018.
Posting on Instagram, Scudder said: “YES! I can’t believe God gave me my best friend to spend the rest of my life with, can’t wait to be your wife, Scottie!!!! Blown away at the Lord’s faithfulness and goodness to us. [LET’S] DO THIS!!”
They’ve been by each other’s side ever since and are now expecting their first child together as a couple.
Meredith even carried her husband’s bag during the Masters par-3 contest before he went on to win his first green jacket in 2022.

She’s been there through the tough times too with Scheffler consoled on the back of a buggy by his wife during the Ryder Cup when he lost to Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg.
Scheffler has regularly admitted golf is way down on his list of priorities in life in relation to his wife.
Now with a kid on the way, the two-time Masters champion has admitted that the sport he continues to dominate will be even further down the list.

“I will go home, soak in this victory tonight. Will definitely enjoy the birth of my first child,” he said.
“But with that being said, I still love competing. My priorities will change here very soon.
“My son or daughter will now be the main priority, along with my wife, so golf will now be probably fourth in line.
