Tyson Fury’s true feelings emerge ahead of Oleksandr Usyk fight as insider opens up on concerning rumours

Tyson Fury’s former cutman Jorge Capetillo has revealed the Gypsy King is ‘in great spirits’ having recently spoken to him.

Capetillo has also dismissed concerning reports that Fury has been getting knocked down in sparring ahead of his mega bout with Oleksandr Usyk.

Fury is currently in Saudi Arabia preparing for the much-anticipated undisputed fight against Usyk on February 17.

Worrying rumours were circulated by Johnny Nelson this week claiming that the 35-year-old is struggling in the gym and has been getting ‘turned over’ by his sparring partners.

Former WBO cruiserweight champion Nelson doubled down on the revelations he had heard after promoter Eddie Hearn had branded them as ‘absolute rubbish’.

Capetillo, who famously helped Fury after he suffered a horrendous cut above his eye during his fight with Otto Wallin in 2019, is seemingly siding with Hearn.

He claims that he never saw Fury get put down in sparring during their time together and believes the rumours are not true in the slightest.

Capetillo told Betway: “No, I have never seen Tyson Fury get knocked down in a sparring session.

“I think sometimes people can make up stories, make a big drama and not even know what happened.

“There are many things that can happen in a sparring session for sure. There are many champions that have been dropped from bad positioning, a trip or a push, that is part of the game and comes with the territory.

“However, Tyson has never been dropped in sparring when I have been with him in the gym.

“He is not only an incredible talent, but he is also very tough and has a huge heart and I believe these are rumours which just aren’t true.

“Tyson is a big guy who has so much pride in his performances and trust me when I say, nobody has ever knocked down Fury or even hurt him in sparring.”

Fury heads into the fight off the back of an unconvincing win over former MMA star Francis Ngannou last October.

Capetillo believes he will be in a better position on February 17 than in the bout against Ngannou.

He claims Fury recently told him that he is ‘excited’ and is ready to put in the ‘best performance’ of his career to date.

Capetillo added: “Tyson still has a tremendous craft and is a tremendous talent and I think we are going to see a better version this time against Oleksandr Usyk.

“What happened with Francis, it surprised him with his size and frame. Tyson is more conscious to display a better performance against Oleksandr Usyk.

“I believe not only his boxing skills, but his height, reach, speed and ring IQ will see him become undisputed champion.

“This is the fight the world wants to see, and I spoke to Tyson recently and he told me how he was in great spirits and was excited to put on the best performance of his career.”

Asked what went wrong for Fury against Ngannou, the cutman said: “Let me put it this way, sometimes MMA fighters can be awkward and have a different style, so I think what really surprised Tyson was that Francis was so big and so strong and he didn’t realise this until he was in the ring with him.

“He should’ve boxed on the outside a little bit more, but he wanted to perform and show Francis the power of a boxer.

“We saw not only a fighter but a man who is really strong in Francis Ngannou at 270lbs. It was a very good fight and he had to adjust to get the victory over Ngannou.”
