Prince William is set to attend a sporting event after cancelling his royal duties.

The Prince of Wales will join fans at the FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, Kensington Palace has confirmed.

Prince William is a keen football fan and a lifelong supporter of Aston Villa.

The father-of-three took over the role of President of the Football Association in 2006 from the Duke of York who held the role from 2000.

The prince sent a heartfelt message to his beloved Villa team after they qualified for the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League.

William wrote: “We are Champions League! A historic season and an amazing achievement. Thanks to Unai, the whole squad and everyone at @AVFCOfficial. Can’t wait for next season. #UTV!”

Royal aides have not confirmed whether William will appear with any of his three children, Prince George, Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte.

However, Prince George is also a fan of his father’s team and was seen at Aston Villa matches earlier this season.

The Princess of Wales is not expected to attend as she continues to stay out of the public eye while receiving chemotherapy treatment for cancer.

The King has also postponed his engagements for the rest of this week as is customary during an election campaign.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said on Wednesday: “Following the Prime Minister’s statement this afternoon calling a General Election, The Royal Family will – in accordance with normal procedure – postpone engagements that may appear to divert attention or distract from the election campaign.

“Their Majesties send their sincere apologies to any of those who may be affected as a result.”

The statement said engagements that “may appear to divert attention or distract from the election campaign” will be cancelled.

However, GB News’ Royal correspondent Cameron Walker said on X: “I understand D-Day memorial engagements will go ahead, but others will be reviewed on a case by case basis.”
