‘People know that things need to change’ Shadow Financial Secretary claims as cost of train tickets rises TWICE as fast as wages

The Shadow Finacial Secretary James Murray has claimed that “people know that things need to change” after the cost of train tickets has gone up.

Speaking to GB News, Murray said: “We’re setting out today our detailed plan for reforming the way that the railways would work because I think anyone who travels by rail or tries to travel by rail will know the problems that we face.

“Cancellations are at a record high, the cost of tickets has gone up twice as fast as wages since 2010.

“People know that things need to change.

“So that’s why we set out our plan today, which is about increasing standards for passengers. It’s about bringing down costs for taxpayers, and it’s about supporting economic growth across the country.”

Last month regulated rail fares increased by 4.9 per cent. The government said the new 4.9 per cent cap is lower than the equivalent in Scotland, where prices will increase by up to 8.7 per cent.
