The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has published the full list of Cold Weather Payment triggers this week as temperatures are set to plunge below zero.

The Cold Weather Payment scheme provides low-income households with an automatic payment of £25 following periods of very cold weather.

Payments are triggered when the average temperature has been recorded as, or is forecast to be, zero degrees Celsius or below over seven consecutive days at the weather station linked to an eligible person’s postcode.

GETTY

Minister for Pensions Paul Maynard said: “Cold Weather Payments provide much-needed support to households when colder weather kicks in, so that families reduce anxiety about bills.

“This is part of our wider plan to help those who need it the most, while our number one priority remains driving down inflation – and helping everyone’s money go further.”

Payments should be made to eligible people’s bank accounts automatically within 14 days of the trigger.

The money should appear in bank statements with the payment reference including their National Insurance number and the code “DWP CWP”, for those in England and Wales.
