Croatia is a popular option for a getaway, but Britons should be prepared if jetting off for some sun.

New checks have been introduced that holidaymakers should be prepared for.

These will affect Britons and tourists entering via the Slovenian border.

The FCO shared an update on checks that have started in the last few days.

Those travelling to the country could face extra checks

Anyone going into the country this way should make sure they have all the correct documents.

They should also make sure they have plenty of time to get through any checks.

The FCO states: “From 21 October, temporary border checks have been introduced at Croatia’s borders with Slovenia.

“You should allow extra time for crossing the land border between Croatia and Slovenia, and be ready to show your passport or residency card if you are asked to do so by the border police.

“Checks may also involve vehicle inspections.”

It shared a further reminder for everyone to get passports stamped when entering or leaving the country.

It continued: “If you’re a visitor, your passport must be stamped when you enter or leave the Schengen area (which includes Croatia).

“Border guards will use passport stamps to check you haven’t overstayed the 90-day visa-free limit for stays in the Schengen area.
