Vicky McClure has opened up about the physical toll filming the high-octane action of ITV’s Trigger Point had on her ahead of the second season.
After an impressive debut run which averaged 9.5million viewers an episode in 2022, McClure is back to lead the nail-biting bomb disposal drama alongside several familiar faces.
Hass star Nabil Elouahabi is back while Danny’s Eric Shango, DI Thom Youngblood’s Mark Stanley, Sonya’s Kerry Godliman and Jeff star Kevin Eldon will all return to the drama.
While there will be some new faces to the cast as well to shake things up, one thing that has remained the same is the tense and gripping action sequences fans have come to expect.
After all, a synopsis for the show’s second season premiere from ITV reads: “In episode one, Lana is back from secondment in Estonia, training Ukrainian bomb disposal teams, but has not yet returned to active duty.
“She is giving a routine talk to security officers from major financial institutions about the issues surrounding bomb-centred terrorism when there is a bomb attack in the heart of the city.
Trigger Point ITV: Vicky McClure returns as Lana Washington
ITV
“Lana is closest to the incident, but is she ready to take it on?”
The season two opener will undoubtedly throw some perilous incidents McClure’s Lana ‘Wash’ Washington’s way – and it’s not just on the character on-screen that they’ve had their effect on.
Speaking about the physical shoot, McClure said: “It was so exhausting! It is physical for sure…
“But the most tiring aspect is that I’m in pretty much every day because even if I’m not acting I’m there as an executive producer, watching footage and writing notes on scripts.”

McClure serves as an executive producer alongside Line of Duty mastermind and frequent McClure collaborator, Jed Mercurio.
She continued: “I don’t want to be an exec just for the title, I’ve got my own production company now and I like to get involved.
“I’ve always been interested in production, ever since I started doing acting many years ago, because I’m pretty nosey and I like to know what’s happening.
“I feel like a crew member on Trigger Point, which is great. I’m just one of those people who tends not to take too much time off.
Vicky McClure health: The Trigger Point star felt like her ‘back had broken’ during filming

“I think I did have one massage during the shoot because my back felt like it was broken in half at one point, but otherwise I just kept going,” she continued.
“I turned 40 while we were filming, so that was a great excuse for me to keep moaning about the fact that I’m 40 and was doing all this running – the camera could tell it was me so there was no chance of using a stunt double!
“I lucked out though because my birthday was the day of the Coronation so everyone was off. I was in the day after though, so no hangovers allowed, but thankfully I’m not a big drinker!”
McClure will star in all six episodes of the second season of Trigger Point after it took over the same Sunday evening time slot vacated by Vera – which will be back for another series next year.
