Former boxing star Johnny Nelson has accused Tyson Fury of lying as his mega fight with Oleksandr Usyk approaches.

The duo had originally been due to fight last month in Saudi Arabia.

However, that fight was pushed back with Fury needing more time to recover from his victory over Francis Ngannou at the end of October.

While he came out on top that evening, however, the Gypsy King has been scrutinised for his surprisingly flat display.

Fury looked vulnerable and was knocked to the canvas in round three by his opponent, leaving the boxing world stunned.

He won via split decision but his abject performance has been a big talking point in the time since.

Nelson said late last year that Fury’s legs had gone.

And he’s now reiterated his stance, while also admitting he feels the Briton was lying when he said he had trained to a high standard.

Speaking to Grosvenor Sport, Nelson said: “This is controversial because Fury swore blind that he trained an amazing training camp for the fight against Ngannou.

“If we are to believe that he trained really hard for that fight then it only leaves us with the fact that his legs must have gone.

“There’s no way he should have performed like that if he trained really hard and he’s the fighter he was.

“That should of never of happened against Ngannou. He should have shut him out, that job should have been done.

“I believe it was a lie, I don’t believe he trained hard for the fight and give it the respect and that he should have done.

“We all made a mistake, I thought Ngannou was going to give him Hellfire, but I wasn’t fighting, so it was Fury’s responsibility to make sure he didn’t make the mistake.”

Nelson does think, however, that Fury is capable of beating Usyk.

Both men are yet to lose a career fight so far.

The 57-year-old continued: “Fury has proved he is the best heavyweight in the world, so it’s down to him to make sure he ticks every box.

“If we’re to believe he trained hard for Ngannou, he is going to lose against Usyk.

“If he trains really hard, he gets the job done.

“I’ve always said Fury beats Uysk, he’s unorthodox, too big, too strong, too awkward as well as unorthodox.

“I think he beats Usyk and I think Usyk’s a really good fighter.

“I think Tyson Fury has all the attributes going for the heavyweight division.

“Unorthodox, fast, tall and can both have a boxing brain and he’s great at boxing foreplay.

“Fights are often won weeks and months before actually getting in the ring, and he’s been the best at it.

“Unfortunately, it’s lost in translation with Usyk because of the language barrier.

“That’s why you have to get physical.”
