Britons in Germany have been issued a fresh warning as new information has been added regarding border controls.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) told holidaymakers: “A temporary reintroduction of border controls is currently in place at Germany’s land borders.”

Britons were advised to see information from The Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community.

The Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community explained that it has ordered the temporary reintroduction of border control at Germany’s land borders with France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark for six months, starting on September 16, 2024.

Border checks will therefore be possible at all of Germany’s land borders from this date.

The Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community stated: “The complete package of stationary and mobile border policing measures, including the possibility to refuse entry at the border, will be applied at all of Germany’s land borders as allowed by EU and national law.”

The temporary border controls have been implemented to “limit irregular migration further and to protect Germany’s internal security”.

Checks at Germany’s land border with Austria will be in place until November 11, 2024.

Meanwhile, the order to conduct checks at land borders with Switzerland, the Republic of Poland and the Czech Republic will be enforced until December 15, 2024.

For further information on the border checks, Britons can consult The Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community.

Britons visiting Germany should consult the FCDO for the latest information on warnings and insurance, entry requirements, safety and security, health and getting help.

Holidaymakers in Germany will soon be affected by an essential Europe travel warning as a new system is set to launch within months.

It is always advisable to consult the FCDO for up-to-date travel guidance when booking a trip abroad.

This way, holidaymakers can ensure they remain safe and aware of the latest developments in their chosen destination.

Holidaymakers in South America were told to “wear a face mask or stay inside” due to forest fires.

Britons were also warned they could become ill in a popular holiday destination, with some at risk of developing a “severe disease”.
