Tottenham hero Stephen Carr has insisted the club shouldn’t sack Ange Postecoglou, despite their difficult season so far.

The north London giants have struggled in the Premier League, having picked up just 20 points from 15 matches.

And while they avoided defeat to Rangers on Thursday, their 1-1 draw in Glasgow still left much to be desired.

With Tottenham struggling to turn things around, Postecoglou has found himself under pressure in the capital – with some fans calling on him to be relieved of his duties.

Carr, who was part of the Tottenham side that won the EFL Cup back in 1999, has now provided his verdict on the former Celtic boss.

And the ex-defender feels Postecoglou’s methods work and that the onus is on the players to take more responsibility for their poor form.

Speaking exclusively to GB News via William Hill, Carr said: “You have to believe in Ange as he has shown the style of football can work as it wasn’t long ago Spurs won 4-0 at Manchester City.

“The issue with Spurs at the minute is the inconsistency they are showing. They must improve their consistency if they want to challenge for European and Champions League positions this season.

“Last year Ange started so well and Spurs were looking excellent before the Chelsea defeat and injury to [Micky] Van de Ven.

“This season they have shown glimpses of a good side, but they have had injuries to key defenders and now the goalkeeper too.

“Ang’s job security should not be a discussion as when he gets all the right players on the pitch, Spurs can be dangerous.

“They have a big quarter final coming up in the Carabao Cup, so this is a route to silverware, as is the Europa League, where Spurs can challenge.

“They need to get through this tricky period, get back to winning and this can be a successful season.”

Another person to come in for criticism amid Tottenham’s patchy form is Daniel Levy.

The Spurs chairman has worked wonders off the pitch, bringing stability to the club, even if results on the field haven’t always lived up to expectations.

Carr does feel criticism of Levy isn’t justified, however, and has backed the Tottenham chief to stay in his role.

“Daniel Levy has helped deliver Spurs a state of the art stadium, the fan base has grown and Spurs do have a good squad of players,” he continued.

“The competitive nature of the Premier League is such the likes of Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal are doing well and Chelsea are now finding a tune from spending over 1 billion on players.

“Spurs just need to keep faith and they can come good. They can be successful, it’s having patience in this project and trusting the manager.

“Daniel has given Ange money to spend as they got Solanke in last season, which was expensive.”

After Tottenham lose to Chelsea last weekend, Son Heung-min appeared visibly distressed.

He has been Spurs’ best player ever since the departure of Harry Kane in 2023 and, without him, the past decade could have been extremely different.

Son has also struggled with injuries – yet Carr is adamant he remains vital to the cause.

“He is very experienced, he is talented and offers a lot to the younger players,” added the Irishman. “He is a player I would definitely keep.”
