The One Show presenters Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas paid tribute to Michael Mosley whose body was found on Sunday, June 10 after he went missing on the Greek island of Symi.

Mosley was on holiday with his wife Claire Bailey and caused concern when he didn’t arrive back at their accommodation after deciding to walk the tricky route home.

Greek authorities announced today that the esteemed broadcaster died as a result of “natural causes”, noting there were “no signs of injury” on Mosley’s body.

The 67-year-old was found next to a fence surrounding a beach bar after an extensive five-day search and was claimed to have died around 4pm on Wednesday, the same day he went missing.

Tributes of Mosley’s co-stars, friends and fans have been pouring in since the news of his death, with The One Show paying their tributes and remembering his time on the show.

During tonight’s show, Jones began: “Good evening, we are starting tonight’s show with the sad news that we have lost a dear friend and colleague.

“Dr Michael Mosley was part of the original line-up on One Show reporters who made his appearance in 2007 and he has been a familiar presence on the show since.”

Jenas added: “We have already had hundreds of messages from you sharing what a difference he made to your life so do please keep them coming.”

After watching a short video of Mosley’s career and several appearances on the BBC One show, Jones went on: “It is still very hard to grasp what has happened and I think everybody feels that don’t they?

“But we are joined now by two people who worked with Michael, Dr Chris Van Tulleken and Dr Hannah Fry. Thank you for joining us this evening and as friends of Michaels, so sorry to hear about what happened over the weekend.

“It is an absolute shock. Chris, you worked with him on trust me I’m a doctor, and I am sure you have been thinking about Michael and the fun you had over the years. What are your fondest memories of working with him?”

Keeping it short, Tulleken noted: “I think anyone who watched Michael would know that he was kind and generous on screen but when he was not on screen that was exactly who he was as well.”

Fry agreed and said: “I was at this science dinner and I done one small programme but Michael was there and he was like a titan, this great man of British science broadcasting, and he took the time to go and find me and introduce himself to me and then talk to me about things I was doing.

“I cannot tell you how many people on and off screen the careers this man helped. Off-screen and on-screen the same person.”

Jones recalled her time with Mosley and revealed: “Super generous man. Even when he would come on here in my early days, I was a bit shy then right? You always felt in such safe hands and so generous with tips and tricks as well.

Dr Mosley’s wife said on Sunday that her family were “taking comfort in the fact that he so very nearly made it”.

In a statement, she said: “He did an incredible climb, took the wrong route and collapsed where he couldn’t be easily seen by the extensive search team.

“We had an incredibly lucky life together. We loved each other very much and were so happy together.”
