The price of mulled wine or a pint varies greatly

GETTY

Edinburgh is the cheapest market for a pint, the research showed, but visitors will be left out of pocket when buying mulled wine.

It had the second most expensive mulled wine, at £7 for a cup.

Seven markets sell mulled wine for £5, which was the cheapest price shown in the study.

The overall cost of visiting a Christmas market depends on lots of factors, including food prices, the cost of entertainment and entry.
