A popular Spanish hotspot will reintroduce strict new rules where those visiting will need to wear a mask.

This comes amid a rise in health issues across the country.

Concerns have been raised in Spain as health centres become overwhelmed with illness.

The Spanish Society for Family Doctors has urged popular regions to reintroduce the use of masks.

Valencia has introduced new restrictions

This could be mandatory amid fears Covid and winter flu cases are growing.

Regions such as Valencia have already introduced wearing masks in some circumstances.

This includes people with symptoms in shared spaces, professionals who care for symptomatic cases and people who work in Intensive Care Units and Units with Vulnerable Patients.

Those in hospital and primary care emergencies and in concentrated spaces such as waiting rooms must also wear a mask.

The restrictions are in place from today and could affect Britons in the area.

Valencia has shared concerns as its health service is being pushed and is struggling to cope.

It is facing a rate of illness of 1,500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

An official ban has not yet been put in place across Spain but it could be introduced if advice is followed.

Britons in Spain could be affected

Flu is common in the winter months and the illness is expected to spike in Spain in the third week of January.

The new rules have been introduced in Valencia to try to ease how serious this could be.

This comes as Britons in Spain have shared their concerns over plans to transform a popular tourist destination.

Proposals have been made to update a port with a walkway, play area and mini golf.

Some have criticised how this will look and questioned whether it is necessary.
