Sky Sports were forced to apologise during their live coverage of the PDC World Darts Championship on Monday night after an X-rated interview was broadcast.
The incident occurred following German player Ricardo Pietreczko’s victory over seeded opponent Gian van Veen in the round of 64.
Pietreczko, who secured a 3-1 win, gave a post-match interview that included an expletive while discussing his recent form.
The broadcaster quickly issued an apology to viewers for the language used during the live broadcast from Alexandra Palace.

In his post-match interview, Pietreczko reflected on his previous performance, stating: “It’s really important for me because the players’ championship, it was a very s****y game for me.”
The German continued: “On stage, I love the Ally Pally and yeah, really important for me.”
Following the expletive, Sky Sports presenter Emma Paton immediately addressed viewers, saying: “Apologies for some of the language that you heard there.”

Pietreczko added: “Fifty per cent on doubles? I can’t speak on the doubles. I don’t know, I’m over the moon. I love the big stage and I love the crowd here.”
The German player’s appreciation for the crowd marked a stark contrast to his earlier comments before his first-round match against Xiaochen Zong.
Prior to that match, Pietreczko had expressed frustration about spectator behaviour, particularly regarding whistling.

“This whistling and stuff like that – nobody likes that,” he had said. “When you hear a shrill whistle like that, you lose your concentration completely.”
He had further insisted: “Anyone who disrupts the game should no longer be part of the event.”
Pietreczko’s 3-1 victory over Gian van Veen secured his place in the third round of the World Darts Championship, with Scott Williams up next.

Williams earned his place in the next round after defeating 2018 champion Rob Cross, also with a 3-1 scoreline.
There was controversy during that clash, however, with Cross appearing to make a rude gesture with his hands.
Williams has, though, insisted he ‘doesn’t care’ about the controversy.
“Firstly, I wasn’t aware of anything. Secondly, regardless of what he did, I don’t really care,” he said.

“When you’re up on that oche… I’ve just played one of my closest pals for £10,000… There are not many people watching this who have gone and done that, so I’m not bothered by what he did.
“We had a chat beforehand; we had a chat afterwards.
“I love him; he’s great. Regardless, we’ll see each other today, over Christmas, and in the next couple of months.”
