Sir David Jason, 83, has returned to the small screen to deliver a health update following a hip operation earlier this year.

However, while Jason revealed he’s on the mend and doing well, he’s encountered some “trouble” since his hospital stint.

“You had your hip operation and we saw – it went viral – you throwing your crutches away. Are you okay? Are you on the mend?”

“Yeah I am,” Jason replied before he delved into the less-than-positive aspects of his recovery.

He explained: “I’m having a little trouble getting the muscles back because I was so infirm for two or three weeks as it were.

“I wasn’t using the legs at all so that’s where I’m at now,” he added before insisting: “I’m getting it back!

“I’m doing some exercises and working on it – but the hip itself is wonderful,” he told Lorraine Kelly.

And Jason is showing no signs of slowing down post-op, with his new book hitting shelves, a promise to return to the Only Fools fan conventions in 2024, and a new TV show in the pipeline.

He’s teamed up with The Repair Shop fan-favourite Jay Blades for a new show on the BBC titled Touring Toolshed.

According to the Beeb, Jason and Blades’ new show “will see the duo attend a craft, hobby or engineering fair, meet enthusiasts, tinkerers and crafters and call in some talented experts to help fix their problem projects”.

It adds: “They’ll also be heading out into the surrounding areas to meet the people whose incredible hobbies have taken over their whole life.”

Speaking back in June when the show was commissioned, Jason said: “It’s great to be back on the nation’s TV screens doing something totally different.

“I’ve played a lot of roles in my time but, to be myself, show off my creative passion and help the wonderful people we meet along the way resolve their mechanical masterpiece issues is very rewarding.

“I’ve really enjoyed being on the road with Jay where we have built up a great friendship and had a lot of fun which I hope the viewers will enjoy watching when it airs.”

Jason’s new TV show is set to air in 2024 and will be available to stream online.
