The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after 10 cats were found stuffed inside two pet carriers.
The animal welfare charity said there was no room for the Persian-cross cats to move and they “could have potentially suffocated”.
The cats were found abandoned under the A737 flyover on Blackstoun Road in Paisley, Renfrewshire, at around lunchtime on New Year’s Day.
Four adult cats were found in one carrier and six kittens were recovered from the other.
Scottish SPCA inspector Isla Bell said: “There was no room inside the carriers for them to move and they could have potentially suffocated due to the conditions.
“None of the cats are microchipped or wearing collars.
“The cats are now in the care of one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres and receiving the appropriate treatment.”
