Expats relocate for many reasons, whether to experience a different culture or explore new opportunities.

When deciding to move, the safety of the area is an important thing to consider.

The most peaceful countries to stay in have been named in the Global Peace Index.

Iceland topped the list as the safest country for the 14th year in a row.

Iceland was voted the safest place due to low crime levels, a high standard of living, a lack of tension among social and economic classes and a small population, among other reasons.

However, Britons looking to move to or visit the area now should beware of ongoing safety advice following a series of volcanic eruptions on the Reykjanes peninsula.

Iceland is famed for its dramatic landscapes and those visiting have the chance to see the northern lights.

“Every day, there is an adventure waiting to happen in Iceland,” Visit Iceland states.

“[It has an] abundance of mountains, volcanoes, glaciers, rivers, lakes, caves and otherwise rough terrain waiting to be tackled.

“Iceland is truly an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise. But, it is also a warm and welcoming place for the rest of us.”

Britons who moved abroad have shared their opinions and given advice to others looking to move.

An expat in Portugal shared the “intimidating” thing that is the worst part about moving there.
