Strong winds sweeping the UK could see thousands of Britons hit with flight delays as airlines grapple with severe weather conditions, Ryanair has warned.

Ryanair passengers have been alerted to potential delays due to high winds sweeping across the southeastern stretch of the country that are outwith its control. Jet2 has also shared travel advice for Britons.

The airline announced on its website: “Affected passengers will be notified and any passengers travelling to/from the South of the UK on Monday 08 April should check their Ryanair app for the latest updates on their flight.

“We regret any inconvenience caused to passengers by these high winds, which are outside of Ryanair’s control and affect all airlines operating to/from the South of the UK on Monday 08 April.”

One aircraft flying to Norwich had to abort its landing after struggling with the strong crosswinds.

The Met Office warned that the gales could also send debris flying, bringing additional danger to life. Jet2 also shared a warning about flights.

Despite the potential delays, passengers flying with Jet2 are advised to check in to their flights as scheduled, bearing in mind that check-in desks close 40 minutes before scheduled departure time.

In a warning, the website stated: “If your flight is disrupted, we will be in contact with you directly via SMS and email and post regular updates on this page of the Jet2.com website.

“We ask you to please ensure you check and update your contact information (You can check and amend this through the ‘manage my booking’ section on our website or app’).

An update by the website on Friday stated: “Customers are advised to arrive at their departure airport at least two hours before their scheduled departure time.

“In the event of any flight delays, further information can be found by using the search panel by entering your flight number or route.

“As a reminder, check-in desks will close 40 minutes before your scheduled departure time.

“Rest assured, in the event of flight disruptions our dedicated operations team are always working hard behind the scenes at our UK-based HQ to get you on your way as soon as possible.”

The latest update on the Met Office website has warned that wet and windy weather will likely continue in the Southeast of England.
