A British traveller’s holiday in Albania has turned into a nightmare as he faced multiple flight delays, potentially jeopardising his job.

Rahul Majji, 27, from Edinburgh, was due to return from Tirana on Friday, but his Ryanair flight was repeatedly postponed.

The shift manager in hospitality said he feared losing his job due to the extended delay, which caused him to miss work shifts.

Majji claimed to have lost about £350 in earnings as a result of the ordeal.

“I’m scared I will lose my job as the weekends are the hardest time to get cover in hospitality,” Majji told the EdinburghLive.

Majji’s ordeal began when his flight, originally scheduled for 1.55 pm on Friday, was repeatedly delayed.

He recounted the frustrating experience: “Our flight was supposed to take off yesterday at around 1.55pm but after arriving at the gate we all realised the flight was delayed. It was rescheduled to take off just after 2pm, then 3pm, then 5pm, 7pm and so on.”

The series of delays continued until around 10pm when passengers were finally informed they would be placed in a hotel over night.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Majji said the accommodation provided by Ryanair during the delay was “s***e” and had significant issues.

“There was no hot water, holes in the floor and the washrooms were very unclean,” Majji said.

Despite the poor conditions, Majji noted that the hotel staff were “lovely”.

However, he expressed frustration at the lack of communication from Ryanair during this time.

“We could not get in contact with anyone from Ryanair,” he said, adding, “I’m honestly horrified.”

Ryanair said the delays were in relation to a technical issue with the aircraft, which caused the delay.

A spokesperson for the airline said: “This flight from Tirana to Edinburgh (October 4) was delayed overnight due to a technical issue with the aircraft.

“Passengers were notified and provided with overnight accommodation, while engineers serviced the aircraft, which took longer than initially expected.”

The airline claimed to have kept passengers informed with updates on estimated departure times. Ryanair also reported sending a new aircraft from Edinburgh to resolve the issue.

Majji confirmed receiving a text from Ryanair, which mentioned the provision of additional refreshment vouchers and a new scheduled departure time of 9.50pm the following day.
