Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have shared their hope to increase the capacity at the club’s ground.

The 47-year-old Hollywood stars bought the club in 2020 and recently oversaw the North Wales-based side’s second consecutive promotion.

The third oldest professional football club in the world, Wrexham AFC will play its first game back in League One after the summer break.

A Disney+ documentary series, Welcome To Wrexham, has followed the trials and tribulations of the club and returns for a third season this week.

The new season follows the club’s first season in the English Football League for 15 years.

Rob McElhenney told American entertainment website Collider that the plan is to expand the stands at The Racecourse Ground to welcome between 45,000 and 55,000 people.

It currently has a capacity of 12,600 and as well as being the club’s home has also previously hosted performances by the likes of Stereophonics.

“The whole town could come to the game,” Reynolds joked in the interview.

Last week, Transport for Wales announced two trains would be named after the duo’s home cities.

It followed speculation that Wrexham striker Ollie Palmer had been cast in Ryan Reynolds’ latest Deadpool film.

Both McElhenney and Reynolds have been praised for putting Wrexham on the map, with a tourism chief claiming they have given the North Wales region a “£1bn boost”.
