Burnley will feel aggrieved that a late Luton goal was allowed to stand by VAR in Friday’s match at Turf Moor.

Premier League fans have vented their anger at the decision to not rule out Carlton Morris’ late goal.

Burnley had led from the 36th minute thanks to a Zeki Amdouni strike.

But they suffered late heartache when Morris headed in an equaliser in the second minute of second-half stoppage time.

Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford came out to claim a cross.

However, he was unable to hang on after he collided with Luton striker Elijah Adebayo.

Morris pounced onto the loose ball and headed in to draw his team level.

Referee Tony Harrington initially allowed the goal to stand before VAR had a long look at the footage.

But the officials at Stockley Park did not think a clear and obvious error was made and the goal stood.

However, fans did not agree with the call on social media.

One fan wrote on X: “Burnley have been robbed by the incompetent guys at VAR. It was a clear foul on their goalkeeper.”

While another put: “Burnley robbed.”

It was a common theme with another viewer writing: “Burnley were robbed to be honest.. shocking decision by VAR officials.”

One more wrote: “That’s a clear foul on Trafford Burnley got robbed crazy to think this could cost them relegation.”

Victory would have been huge in Burnley’s fight to stay in the top flight.

It would have taken them to within one point of their opponents but they now remain four points from safety.

Robbie Savage was on co-commentary duty but he felt the correct decision was made.

Savage said on TNT Sports: “Adebayo stands his ground. Does Trafford run into him? Morris with the header.

“Oh this is going to be tight. Is that a clear and obvious foul on the goalkeeper? I’m not so sure it is.

“This is a huge moment. Is that a foul on the goalkeeper?

“Morris with the header. This is a huge decision. This is a huge moment.

“My instinct will say any touch on a goalkeeper is usually a foul. I don’t think that’s a foul.

“Is that a clear and obvious error on the goalkeeper? I’m not sure it is.

“Does Adebayo do enough to put the goalkeeper off there? I think it’s a goal.

“I’m sure there’s going to be lots of debate but I think that’s the correct decision.

“James Trafford’s come for them all evening and he’s gathered them really well. But on that occasion I think it’s the correct decision.

“The goal was given and I think it’s right. Yeah [he did lose the flight of it]. On that occasion, Adebayo didn’t do enough for me.

“I didn’t think it was a foul and usually you see them go for the goalkeeper.”
