In a poll published on Friday (May 10) — in support of the weekly New Music Latin roundup and playlist, curated by Billboard’s Latin and Billboard Español editors — music fans voted for the Mexican artists’ latest collaboration as their favorite music release of the past week.
“La Durango” garnered nearly 70% of the votes, beating out other new songs that also dropped in the week, including Gaby Moreno’s “Alma Florecida,” Gian Marco’s “Dicen En Mi Barrio” and Black Eyed Peas’ “Tonight” with Becky G.
Grupo Frontera landed in second place with its new album, Jugando A Que No Pasa Nada, and Ryan Castro arrived in third place with his new set, El Cantante del Ghetto.
“The title itself hints at the rugged Dodge Durango, perhaps symbolizing the artists’ robust ascent in the regional Mexican music scene,” wrote Billboard Español‘s Isabela Raygoza, spotlighting the track for New Music Latin. “This música mexicana trinity demonstrates that their combined force is not just a fleeting alignment, but a formidable fusion of talents that sets the bar high for genre contemporaries.”
The collab comes after Peso and Eslabon Armado’s wildly successful team-up “Ella Baila Sola,” which made history last year when it peaked at No. 4 on the Hot 100, the highest ranking for a Mexican music song on the tally.
