With the weather in the UK slightly warming up as we head into summer, many Britons will be thinking about this year’s staycation.

According to UK holiday accommodation experts, Salcombe, Devon, might be a great option for those hoping to make a beachy escape.

Making the list of “nine of the most beautiful towns in England”, Salcombe is “undoubtedly one of the best” the UK seaside has to offer.

It is famed for its “laid-back atmosphere, picture-perfect harbour, pristine water and stretches of sand”, according to the experts at Snaptrip.

The gorgeous UK destination is also in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, meaning land that is protected by the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000. It protects the land to conserve and enhance its natural beauty.

On your trip to Salcombe, the experts suggested: “Please your palate with Salcombe’s locally distilled gin, freshly caught crab or to die for Devonshire ice cream.”

Spend the day leisurely meandering through the street, slipping into “quirky” independent shops. Or, check out the surfer stores like a proper water sports enthusiast.

There is plenty to do in the resort town, from exploring the great outdoors to lounging on gorgeous beaches to sampling local cuisine.

Nine of the most beautiful towns in England, according to Snaptrip

  1. Salcombe
  2. Ambleside
  3. Bradford on Avon
  4. Rye
  5. St Ives
  6. Ludlow
  7. Whitby
  8. Stow-on-the-Wold
  9. Bakewell

Overbecks Garden is a stunning listed garden cutting into the side of the cliffs overlooking the Salcombe Estuary.

One visitor to the gardens said on Tripadvisor: “I had a brilliant day here, lovely gardens and brilliant walks, extremely interesting and the staff and gardeners were very knowledgeable. Very well kept and all natural, so pretty and the views were awesome. Highly recommend.”

Beach lovers should head to Salcombe North Sands, which one visitor described as “peaceful and scenic”. Another added: “What a beautiful spot – couldn’t fault it! Not too windy, slightly hazy but got some lovely photos which I will treasure.”

Another said: “Love this little place. Tide was in when we arrived but after a stroll around town and lunch at The Winking Prawn, it had started to go out revealing a beautiful sandy bay with low shallow water for paddling in. Dog friendly too!”

For walking enthusiasts, Salcombe to Bolt Head Walk promises a scenic stroll.

The three-mile moderate walk offers “spectacular” views at the end, claimed one reviewer on Tripadvisor.

Another called it an “absolutely lovely walk”. The Salcombe staycationer said: “We made it into a loop, walking back to town through Malborough, before a well earned pint at the Ferry.”
