Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa players consoled a young season-ticket holder after he was unable to finish Sunday’s Remembrance Day tribute.

The 16-year-old performed The Last Post on the trumpet prior to the Premier League showdown at the City Ground.

The youngster performed excellently but, towards the end, struggled to hit the correct notes in the final section of the song.

Applause rang out around the stadium after his performance before players from both sides then rushed to console him and tell him he did well.

Sky Sports footage showed the 16-year-old looking visibly distraught as he made his way back to the tunnel.

But players on both sides touchingly wished him well and consoled him prior to the match commencing.

The teenager had, per the Daily Mail, been meant to play The Last Post ever since the age of 13.

However, due to issues related to COVID-19, things kept being pushed back.

The Forest fan, who wore their home shirt, usually sets in the Trent End section of the City Ground with his father.

And football fans on social media were quick to send their well-wishes to the teenager after the slight mishap.

“Poor lad at Forest doing the trumpet for remembrance day,” one user wrote.

“Not sure if it was a malfunction or if the nerves just got to him but something went wrong.

“Great act by both teams going up to the poor fella and saying well done.

“Lovely touch hopefully the lad knows he done well.”

A second fan wrote: “The trumpet player at Nottingham Aston Villa game was amazing.

“He should be incredibly proud.

“Someone give him a big cuddle. You smashed it lad.”

And a third stated: “Nah I feel so bad for that kid who played the trumpet, nice to see that the fans and players cheered him up.”

Nottingham Forest ran out 2-0 winners during the Premier League showdown.
