A murder investigation is under way in east London after a man was fatally stabbed in a park.

Police were called to Plashet Park in East Ham at 7.38pm on Saturday, the Metropolitan Police said.

They found a man, believed to be 20 years old, with stab wounds. Despite the efforts of paramedics, he died at the scene, the force said.

Two teenage boys were also found injured – one with knife injuries and the other having suffered a blow to the head.

They were both taken to hospital and are in a non-life-threatening condition, police added.

Detectives say they know the identity of the victim, but are awaiting an official post-mortem examination for confirmation to be able to tell his family.

The Met’s Superintendent Dion Brown, one of the senior officers responsible for policing Newham, said: “I know this tragic and violent loss of life will cause a good deal of upset among the local community.

“A murder investigation has been launched and continues at pace this morning, with skilled detectives supported by local officers and specialists from across the Met. This investigation will be exceptionally thorough and forensic in its nature.

“I urge any witnesses or anyone who has information to share what they know with police.”
