Mikel Arteta marked his five-year anniversary as Arsenal manager on Friday by declaring “the best is yet to come” as he pursues major silverware with the North London club.
The Spaniard, who took charge on December 20, 2019, expressed his gratitude for his position whilst emphasising his hunger for success.
“I’m grateful to be in the position I am in. I have a lot to learn and improve. The best is yet to come,” Arteta told reporters.
“What we want is the big trophies, without losing the rest of the things we have built,” he added.

Arteta has transformed Arsenal from a club drifting away from the Premier League’s elite into genuine title contenders.
He secured the FA Cup in his first season and has since guided the Gunners back to the Champions League after a six-year absence.
Under his leadership, Arsenal have finished as runners-up to Manchester City in their last two Premier League campaigns.
“The unity and the connections and the fact that we are competing on big fronts right now. We haven’t managed to do that in the past years. That’s positive, but there’s still a lot to do,” Arteta said.
In a strong declaration of loyalty, Arteta stated it would be “impossible” for him to imagine managing another Premier League club.
“I have very limited energy because I put all of it into this football club, to the players and the staff to give my very best. And that’s my only ambition, to make this club more successful,” he said.
The 42-year-old, who previously captained Arsenal as a player, spoke of his deep connection to the club.
“I’m here because I’m so passionate about what I do and I love this football club,” he emphasised.

Arteta acknowledged he must continue to evolve as a manager, stating he needs to improve “in all areas”.
The Spaniard reflected on how his approach has developed since taking charge, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Probably when I arrived I was very, very obsessed with the tactical aspect of the game,” he said. “Then straight away I realised that there were no tactics to do, we were sitting at home with Covid.”
“We’ve built something together and so many people have contributed,” he added. “But now we have to go to another level.”

Arsenal currently sit third in the Premier League standings, six points behind leaders Liverpool.
The Gunners face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday, just days after beating them in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Arteta acknowledged the unique challenge of facing the same opponent twice in quick succession.
“It is different. We analysed them so you don’t have to do that too much. I’m sure both teams will adjust a few things,” he said.
Arsenal’s cup victory has set up a League Cup semi-final against Newcastle as they continue to compete on multiple fronts.
