The Met Office has issued an urgent warning as Storm Bert looks set to wreak havoc over a washout weekend with 70mph winds leading to yet more “disruption”.
The UK’s national weather service, which named Storm Bert as the second storm of the season, revealed that a deep area of low pressure will impact large parts of the UK on Saturday and Sunday.
Heavy rain, snow and strong is expected to hit much of the country in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Several National Severe Weather Warnings have been issued in response to the development.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Holley said: “Storm Bert marks a shift to much milder air and wintry hazards will gradually diminish through the weekend, but heavy snowfall is expected across parts of northern England and Scotland for a time on Saturday, especially over higher ground, and warnings are in place.”
“Heavy rain through Saturday and Sunday, especially in southern and western parts of the UK, will also bring impacts for some with a number of warnings in place.
“We expect 50-75 mm of rainfall quite widely within the warning areas, but in excess of 100 mm is possible over high ground in parts of Wales and southwest England.”
“In addition, rapid melting of lying snow over the weekend and periods of strong winds are likely to exacerbate impacts and bring the potential for travel disruption, as well as flooding for some.”

Amber and yellow Cold Health Alerts have also been issued to cover the entirety of England in an attempt to reduce health impacts caused by extended periods of cold weather.
The Met Office’s Storm Bert warning comes after five yellow alerts were issued for Thursday and Friday.
The warnings cover snow and ice after wintry downpours impacted much of the UK, leading to school closures.
There are now three yellow warnings being put out for Saturday and Sunday.
