Marcus Rashford’s expected punishment revealed with Man Utd star in trouble for clubbing antics

Marcus Rashford is expected to be fined two weeks’ wages after recently going clubbing in Belfast, according to reports.

The Manchester United star has regressed this term, netting just four goals after being given a bumper new deal back in the summer.

Rashford has suffered from several small scandals, too, with the forward previously criticised for going to a nightclub following his birthday in October.

That decision was controversial given how United were played off the pitch by fierce rivals Manchester City mere hours earlier.

Over the weekend, it emerged Rashford had twice gone clubbing in Belfast during a visit to Northern Ireland.

The England international then proceeded to report ill to training, raising eyebrows in the process.

And The Sun say Rashford is expected to be fined two weeks’ wages, meaning he faces a bill of £650,000.

The goalscorer was absent for United as they beat Newport 4-2 in the FA Cup on Sunday night thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, Antony and Rasmus Hojlund.

When quizzed on Rashford’s absence, manager Erik ten Hag batted away questions by saying it was an ‘internal matter’.

United had previously said Rashford had stayed behind at Carrington to train because he wasn’t ‘well enough to be in the squad’.

Ten Hag has shown he isn’t afraid to lay down the law during his time at Old Trafford, regardless of how unpopular it makes him.

The Dutchman punished Rashford by dropping the forward for a 1-0 win over Wolves last season, though the player did come off the bench to score the winner.

Ten Hag had no problem showing Cristiano Ronaldo the door after the 38-year-old gave a bombshell interview criticising the club.

And Jadon Sancho was shipped to Borussia Dortmund earlier this month having effectively called Ten Hag a liar in September.

Alan Shearer, meanwhile, has scrutinised Rashford and said the United star ‘can’t keep wasting his talent’.

“If it’s an internal matter, you’d think something is up,” he said.

“There’s a huge talent in there with Marcus Rashford. We’ve seen him be disciplined last season when he was late to a meeting before a game but something is clearly wrong – either at home or in his relationship with the football club.

“He can’t keep doing this, he can’t keep wasting his talent because it’s not right.

“He needs strong management, someone to get hold of him and tell him there’ll be huge regrets come the end of his career if he continues doing this.

“You can’t keep doing it, it needs sorting now. Thirty goals last season, four this season. When I see him play, it looks like he’s got the world on his shoulders so it needs sorting now because he can’t really deal with it.”

United were unconvincing during their win over Newport in Rashford’s absence.

But Ten Hag was happy they got the job done to reach the fifth round of the FA Cup.

“I think job done. In the first 25 minutes, on our side, we were very good and controlled the game,” he said when quizzed on the result.

“We had the possession and were really controlling it very good.

“We scored two very good goals and were creating one, two or three more, and it could have been 3-0 or 4-0.

“Out of nothing, actually, they scored a goal. Then, straight after half-time, they scored another goal and I have to criticise the team for that.

“Then we started all over and showed character and resilience, fought back and got the third and fourth goal.”

He added: “We have to win every game.

“So there are two things to fight for now – the Premier League and FA Cup. You have to go from game to game.”
