McCourt was jailed for life in 1993 for the murder of shopkeeper Khalid Mahmood and for shooting a woman and a police officer.

He was deemed suitable for release on licence in 2015, but was recalled after he stole from his girlfriend.

McCourt was described as being 6ft 2in tall, with a stocky build and short grey hair and beard, along with reduced mobility.

He was last seen wearing a long black trench coat, grey dress trousers, a grey waistcoat, blue shirt with a red and white striped tie and brown shoes.

The force said he uses public transport and has connections in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
