Manchester United are set to enlist the help of Sir Alex Ferguson following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival, according to reports.

Ratcliffe has purchased a 25 per cent stake in the club after agreeing a deal with the Glazer family.

He has pledged to bring the glory days back to United, who have struggled ever since Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

And, according to The Athletic, the veteran’s experience is set to be ‘tapped into’ by Sir Dave Brailsford.

Ferguson won 13 Premier League titles during his time at United.

Ever since his retirement nearly 11 years ago, however, the 82-year-old has been shoved to the sidelines.

Ferguson hand-picked David Moyes as his successor believing his fellow Scot could keep the success coming.

Moyes lasted just eight months, however, with United going on to hire the likes of Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Erik ten Hag in the years since.

The report says Brailsford feels Ferguson was always ‘ahead of the curve’ during his time at Old Trafford.

He also believes the United legend was ‘very innovative’, too.

And Brailsford is set to tap into Ferguson’s wisdom every now and then to help ‘understand the landscape’ of the club currently.

Ferguson is not the only United hero whose experience will be used, either.

The report says INEOS are primed to use the 66-year-old’s own knowledge as they look to turn United around.

Gill first joined United all the way back in 1997 as finance director.

He would rise to become chief executive of the club, with that move happening in 2003 following the departure of Peter Kenyon to Chelsea.

Gill oversaw one of the most successful periods in United’s history during his spell in power.

The club won five Premier League titles between 2005 and 2013, as well as the Champions League in 2008.

Gill was also a master of recruitment, with United signing players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra and Robin van Persie under his management.

Whether Ferguson and Gill can help INEOS get United fully firing again remains to be seen.

But using the pair’s experience will likely put the Red Devils in good stead.

Ten Hag, meanwhile, recently met with his new bosses for the first time.

The Dutchman has overseen a terrible season so far, with United well off the pace in every competition.

Rumours over his future persist as the club prepare to face Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup on Monday night.

And Ten Hag is happy with the way his first meeting with Ratcliffe and Brailsford went.

“From my talks I had a fantastic feeling after it,” he explained.

“How their personalities and ideas affect the process they want to go in.

“So I am very positive about that and I am sure it will be beneficial to Manchester United.”
