Man Utd fans rage at ’embarrassing’ TNT Sports presenter after awkward Erik ten Hag exchange

Manchester United fans have fumed at TNT Sports presenter Matt Smith after he was involved in an awkward exchange with Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils are currently preparing for tonight’s crunch Champions League clash with Galatasaray.

United know they must win to boost their chances of going through to the knockout stages of the competition, having struggled in Europe so far this term.

There has been controversy before the match, however.

Smith asked Ten Hag whether United had turned a corner or were set for another ‘crisis’.

He then admitted to enjoying seeing the Red Devils suffer.

Ten Hag, to his credit, kept his cool with the 53-year-old staring Smith down and saying: “You like it, eh?”

He then proceeded to insist he and his players don’t care about people wanting them to toil.

Yet that hasn’t stopped United fans on social media from raging, with one saying: “Embarrassing question & poor journalism. @msmith850.”

A second said: “I’m glad Ten Hag cooked him! Media is always trying to make a story out of nothing!”

A third stated: “Just caught him in action lmao. People should think about this next time they read some outrageous ‘rumour’.”

Another said: “What a pathetic thing for the interviewer to say. Good response from ten hag.”

“Nah man seemed like he was gonna eat him the moment he heard that,” were the words of a fifth fan.

And a sixth stated: “Ruthless in response, thatโ€™s my manager.”

United have, as mentioned above, struggled at times this season.

But Ten Hag says he’s confident the Red Devils will win, having started to turn things around.

“We know we can [win away in Europe] and we are confident,” Ten Hag said.

“The last games away from home in the league were also very hostile environments. We played very well. We were very calm and composed.

“This team also last year in Barcelona [in the Europa League did well], so we know how to deal with it and I’m sure it will be a confident team on the pitch.”

He added: “We have to make it our game and it’s the history.

“Obviously Manchester United has a great history, but you can’t take any guarantee from it in the future, so we have to make our own future.

“It’s the past, so tomorrow it’s about the future, so we have to make it our game. It’s on us.”

United have won just one of their four European matches so far this season.

They lost 4-3 to Bayern Munich on matchday one, with Harry Kane on target for the Bundesliga giants.

United then fell to a 3-2 defeat to Galatasaray, despite a fine brace from Rasmus Hojlund.

They did beat Copenhagen 1-0 at Old Trafford thanks to a goal from Harry Maguire.

Yet they lost the reverse fixture 4-2 to dent their hopes of going through.
