A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 75-year-old man was stabbed to death in southwest London.
Police were called to a property on Deodar Road in Putney at around 3:36am this morning following reports of a stabbing.
Officers arrived at the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service who treated the victim for stab injuries.
He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The 30-year-old man who was arrested is believed to be known to the victim, police said.
He remains in custody.
The Metropolitan Police has said they believe the attack was an “isolated incident” and there is “no wider threat to the public”.
The victim has not yet been formally identified but his next kin have been informed.
Detective Superintendent Amanda Mawhinney, from the Met’s South West Command Unit which covers Putney, said: “We are currently supporting the family of a man who was sadly killed in the early hours of this morning… Although we have made significant progress by making an arrest, I would like to make it clear that our investigation does not stop here.
“We need the local community to help us understand what happened in the early hours of this morning.”
DS Mawhinney has appealed for anyone who was in the area at around 3am this morning and that saw or heard anything unusual to contact the force “as soon as possible”.
There has been a higher police presence in the area today while police have carried out their enquiries.
A scene has been in place and there have been road closures.
