Darts star Peter Wright has revealed he’s got rid of all of his trophies after being inspired by Luke Littler.

Littler was unknown just a few weeks ago but, after shining at the World Championship, has now risen to prominence.

The 17-year-old captivated the nation with his performances at Alexandra Palace, even though he lost to Luke Humphries in the final.

Fans can expect to see plenty more of Littler, too, with the teenager set to lock horns with Humphries in the opening fixture of the Premier League.

Wright has won an impressive 47 PDC titles over the course of his career so far.

Yet the 53-year-old has now revealed he’s got rid of all of his trophies because he wants to ‘start afresh’, having been inspired by Littler’s performances earlier in the month.

“I watched the World Championship after I got knocked out, and Luke Littler and Luke Humphries inspired me with what they did,” he told the PDC.

“Especially Luke Humphries with what he’s won over the last four months; it proves what you can do and achieve if you put the hard work in.

“Luke Littler is the best thing I’ve ever seen on TV! That’s why he has inspired me to get my finger out.

“I have got rid of all my trophies, got rid of all my darts, so I can start afresh.

“I want new trophies this year. Last year was terrible and the year before that was terrible, but I’m looking forward to playing this year.

“I took time off last year and it didn’t work, we saw that in the Premier League.

“This year I am hitting everything again. Fingers crossed my mindset is to use one set of darts.

“If I can manage that all year, I’ll be happy and I will be a big threat to everyone.”

Littler fever has taken over the nation.

And it’ll be fascinating to see how the 17-year-old fares when he goes up against Humphries on Thursday night.

The 28-year-old is looking forward to the showdown, with the duo also recently meeting at the Dutch Masters.

Littler got the better of his opponent that night, though did end up losing to home favourite Michael van Gerwen in the final of the competition.

And Humphries thinks the pair could end up meeting on numerous occasions over the next two decades.

He told Sky Sports: “I feel that there’s many, many more major tournament finals for us to play against each other.

“I feel like we’ve both showed a lot of determination over the last couple of years, him especially over the last couple of months.

“He’s an exciting talent, I still feel like I’m young myself. I could have another 20 years left in this sport, he’s certainly got another 20 years left.

“I feel like it’s going to be a healthy rivalry, I think we’ve both got massive potential.

“I feel like I can get better, I think Luke will keep getting better, and if everyone behind us doesn’t get better themselves then we will be the two to take the sport forward.

“But I think there will be a lot more other players to have a lot to say about that.

“But yeah I do think this is a massive healthy rivalry between me and Luke in the future years.”
