Liverpool fans have voiced their anger at reports that Xabi Alonso is no longer in the running to replace Jurgen Klopp in the summer.
Klopp sent shockwaves around Anfield earlier this year when he announced his plan to step down as Liverpool manager at the end of the season.
The 56-year-old had committed to a contract through to 2026, but has admitted he feels the time is right to move on.
His decision has left Liverpool scrambling to bring in a manager capable of taking the mantle from Klopp.

Given the German coach’s iconic status on the red side of Merseyside, picking his replacement will be no easy decision.
But Alonso had emerged as the No 1 pick among most Liverpool fans given his incredible work at Bayer Leverkusen.
The Bundesliga outfit sit top of the table above Bayern Munich by 10 points having gone undefeated through 26 games.
Alonso has been credited for turning their fortunes around for a side that only finished sixth last year and that has never won the biggest prize in German football.
However, sensational reports have now claimed that Alonso will not be on the shortlist to be the next Liverpool manager.
It’s been claimed that Alonso is increasingly likely to remain at Leverkusen for next season in a bitter blow to Liverpool.
The leading candidates are now said to be Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi and Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim.
The news hasn’t gone down well with Liverpool fans, who have been left more fearful of what life will look like after Klopp leaves.

One fan moaned: “Honestly, feels like whoever it is now is just second choice and doesn’t fill anyone with excitement.”
Another said: “This guy gonna be the rogers 2.0, exactly the same when we went for Rodgers, no big club or league experience, nothing proven but just hype.”
A third posted: “All I know is I’m scared for the post Klopp era.”

One other person asked: “Why don’t we ever get what we want. Are we small?”
Another wrote: “Rejected by our own legend. Haven’t felt this bad since Gerrard put in a transfer request to join Chelski. Fuming.”
