Declan Rice opened the scoring to a chorus of Irish boos to kickstart the Lee Carsley era for England against the Republic of Ireland before Jack Grealish doubled the lead.

Irish fans were keen to let Rice and Grealish know what they felt about them on Saturday evening.

The England pair started in Carsley’s first game in charge of the Three Lions, taking place at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

And after 12 minutes, Rice had opened the scoring for England after arriving late into the box.

Harry Kane could not get his feet sorted out as the ball dropped to him before the Arsenal star rushed in and thumped the ball into the roof of the net.

It came as the perfect response after being booed throughout the contest by the home fans with banners attacking him in the stands.

Both Rice and Grealish famously donned the green of Ireland in their younger days before switching allegiance to England.

While the two were both born in England, they each played for the side and there has been bad blood with Irish fans ever since.

It might have been over 10 years, but the Irish fans in the stadium have long memories and booed every time they touched the ball.

There were also banners in the stands digging out Rice and Grealish with one reading: “The snakes are back.”

Another showed a picture of Rice with the caption: “Left Ireland. Left in tears.”

Rice played for the Republic of Ireland up through several age ranks including the Under-17s, Under-19s, and Under 21s before making three caps for the senior side.
