ITV viewers have slammed the broadcaster over its “woke” and “hypocritical” New Year’s message.

The channel aired a pre-recorded clip during the National Lottery’s New Year’s Eve Big Bash on Sunday.

It was presented by Alesha Dixon and Jason Manford.

Busted, Take That and Becky Hill also appeared on the programme.

However, many viewers were far from happy with the celebrities when they started to talk about the dangers of climate change.

The video included messages from Idris Elba and Olivia Colman.

Elba told viewers: “Global warming, climate change and the devastating loss of biodiversity are the greatest threats humanity has ever faced.

“We are in the midst of an ecological crisis.”

Coleman added: “We know exactly what needs to be done.

“We have the knowledge, the tools and the money. We lack only the will.”

A number of viewers expressed their annoyance with the situation on social media.

One said: “Here we go, filthy rich w*****s lecturing the plebs on climate change.”

Another wrote: “Just what we want on new years eve, a load of weathly celebs lecturing us on climate change whilst they live in mansions and fly in private jets #NYEBigBash. Another woke-fest yet again.”

A third added: “Talking about the environment…who cares on NYE?”

The programme also included performances from Paloma Faith and Becky Hill.

Faith, 42, debuted a brunette perm just weeks after dying her hair a fiery red for the British Vogue Forces For Change.
