Holly Willoughby will not be returning to This Morning after working on the ITV show for 14 years, the presenter has announced.

Writing on social media, Willoughby said it has been “an honour” to be part of the show but has made the decision “for me and my family”.

She had been absent from the daytime programme since last week after a 36-year-old man was charged over an alleged plot to kidnap and murder the TV star.

“I have let ITV know today that after 14 years, I will not be returning to This Morning,” she wrote on Instagram.

In her emotional letter to fans, she added: “This is such a difficult goodbye, you are incredible and I forever will be proud of what we’ve done together.

“Thank you to everyone at ITV for being supportive. To every guest who has sat on our sofa, thank you.

“Most of all, thank you to the wonderful viewers. You’ve been so loyal, so supportive and the very best company every day.”

Gavin Plumb, 36, of Potters Field, Harlow appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates Court on Friday charged with soliciting to commit murder and incitement to commit kidnap.

He is accused of encouraging someone to travel to the UK to carry out the plan and of assembling a kidnap and restraint kit.

It was reported that This Morning chiefs were warned about the alleged plot on Thursday morning before the presenter decided to pull out of the show.

Willoughby was said to have been left “shocked and distraught” when she was told about the suspected plot shortly before she was due to go on air.
