A heat blast is set to hit Britain this weekend with unusually high temperatures for October to continue for around seven days.

The warm conditions will blast the UK after hot air is pushed north by a strong ridge of high pressure over Iberia and France later this week which will builds further north across Britain.

Europe looks set to see the hot weather first with temperatures reaching the mid-30s across southern Portugal and South West Spain, as high as 37C in the Seville area.

The average maximum for October in Seville is 27C while in South West France it usually hits the low 30s too.

In Britain, this weekend will see some exceptional warmth across the south.

On Saturday and Sunday, temperatures look set for low 20s across much of England and east Wales, but as high as 24-25C across South East England and East Anglia.

However, weather experts suggest that 26-27C should not be ruled out.

The warmth will continue for another seven days, with low 20C towards the southeast.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Temperatures will slowly begin turning colder from Thursday.

After suggeting temperatures of up to 27C, NetWeather’s latest forecast says: “The warmth continuing into next week too, with low 20s Celsius towards the southeast.

“But later next week, both 12z GFS and ECMWF show something much cooler with the flow turning northerly on Thursday”

Meanwhile, meteorologist Alex Burkill of the Met Office said: “The jet stream is going to push its way northwards ahead of the weekend, allowing for some very warm air to come in from the south.

“As we go into the weekend frontal systems will remain trailing across Scotland as this warm air moves into the south.

“By Sunday, it’ll be a more widely dry and sunny day for many. Highs of around 26C or even 27C in isolated spots are possible.”

Net weather

Temperatures are expected to peak over the weekend before dropping off.

Weather expert, Professor Bentley has even predicted snow in some parts of Scotland.

“It won’t be around long enough to be registered as an actual heatwave,” she said.

“But it will land on a weekend which, depending on your viewpoint, could be quite nice.
