Police have carried out a controlled explosion at a city centre bus station in Glasgow following the discovery of a “potentially suspicious item”.

Three men were also arrested following the incident at Buchanan Bus Station on Wednesday.

Police Scotland said in a statement: “Around 1.10pm this afternoon, police received a report of a potential suspicious item at the bus station.

“Officers contacted the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) and a controlled explosion was carried out. Nothing suspicious was found.”

The travel hub – Scotland’s busiest bus station – was evacuated as a “precaution” during the incident.

The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, which is located opposite the bus station, also cancelled a show.

The venue was due to host an event featuring legends of the Glasgow-based football club, Celtic.

“Due to circumstances beyond our control, this evening’s event has been cancelled,” the venue said on X.

“All ticket holders will be contacted in due course. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
