Fulton County District Attorney (DA) Fani Willis secretly colluded with the House Select Committee on the Jan. 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol (House J6 Committee) in her case against former President Donald Trump, a report reveals.
Breitbart‘s Joel Pollak initially broke the news of the collusion, noting that the Democrat Willis did so “to obtain tips that would help her prosecute Trump.” The DA in Georgia’s Fulton County also “tried to keep it out of court, and public view,” using a procedural trick.
He cited a Jan. 10 report by POLITICO about the matter, which disclosed that staffers from the House J6 Committee met with lawyers and agents working for Willis in mid-April 2022. The committee aides reportedly allowed Willis’ staffers to review, but not keep, a limited set of evidence they had gathered.
“At the time, one reason the committee was more inclined to cooperate with the Fulton County team … was that federal prosecutors might have been required to disclose the evidence in ongoing criminal cases related to the Jan. 6 attack in the Capitol,” POLITICO pointed out. It also mentioned that the committee dismissed requests for material sent by the Department of Justice in the latter’s federal criminal probe of Trump’s election subversion.
Rep. Bernie Thompson (D-MS), the House J6 Committee chairman, had previously described “staff-level contacts” between his panel and Fulton County prosecutors. Two weeks before the alleged meeting, he told reporters that he wasn’t aware of how extensive those contacts were. When questioned on Jan. 10, Thompson told POLITICO that he did not know about the meeting.
“The revelation could upend the prosecution of Trump and 18 co-defendants because the evidence was concealed to keep it away from discovery requirements that would allow defense lawyers to see what was shared, and the extent of the collaboration,” Pollak pointed out.
DA Willis clearly a BIASED prosecutor
“The lawyers from the [House] J6 Committee shared evidence with Willis when she was convening a ‘special purpose grand jury’ prior to the criminal grand jury. Since there were no defendants, POLITICO notes, there could be no defense motions for discovery.”
Pollak pointed out that because the House J6 Committee later destroyed its records, it may not be possible for the defense to obtain all evidence against it. The Breitbart senior editor-at-large ironically noted that Trump faces a separate case for mishandling government documents seized at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.
“Moreover, much of the [House] J6 Committee’s evidence was collected and presented in ways that violated the civil rights of defendants and witnesses – thanks to the fact that then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) blocked Republicans from appointing committee members of their choice,” Pollak continued. “Witnesses who faced the committee’s lawyers behind closed doors found that there was no semblance of a two-sided, adversarial process – only an inquisition, with even ‘Republicans’ opposing Trump.”
Roman’s filing alleged that Wade, a private attorney, paid for extravagant vacations he took with Willis using the funds paid by the county to his law firm. “County records show that Wade … has been paid nearly $654,000 in legal fees since January 2022 … [and that] the DA authorizes his compensation,” according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“The DA chose to appoint her romantic partner who, at all times relevant to this prosecution, has been a married man,” wrote attorney Ashleigh Merchant, who represents Roman in court.
