Weather analyst Nathan Rao has warned that Britain faces more disruptive weather as Storm Herminia approaches, following the devastating impact of Storm Eowyn which brought disruptive winds to the UK.
Wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph are expected widely this week, with potential for 70 mph gusts around exposed coasts and hills.
Another yellow warning for “strong and gusty winds” will be active from Monday at 6am until the same time on Tuesday in the east, south-east and south-west of England and Wales.
Speaking to GB News, Nathan Rao said: “This weather is going nowhere. Hot off the heels of Storm Eowyn which was one of the worst storms in ten years.

“We now have storm Herminia. Sounds like something out of a Harry Potter film.
“Fortunately, nothing quite as magical, because certainly those parts of the country which have had heavy rain and strong winds from Storm Eowyn, they are not going to let up for the next couple of days.

“There are weather warnings in place from the Met Office across southern England, going right through until Tuesday for wind gusts of up to 70mph. Up to three inches of rain.
“And as you mentioned, in the north, where that cold air comes down, we could get some snow. Really miserable.
“And as Storm Herminia, which is sitting off to the west coast of the UK, drizzles away in the middle of the week.
“There is another one on the way ahead of the weekend, and it is not until the weekend until things start to calm down.”

The south of England is now in the firing line as Storm Herminia approaches, with the system expected to “sit and waddle around the southwest of the country,” according to Rao.
The warning comes as more than a million homes were left without power during Storm Eowyn, prompting UK ministers to convene an emergency Cobra meeting on Saturday.
Met Office meteorologist Jonathan Vautrey said: “This is certainly going to be a notch down compared to Eowyn, whilst there is the potential for 60 to 70mph gusts of wind across the very far southwest.”

He noted “there are a lot of sensitivities around” following Eowyn’s impact.
Rao added: “Storm Hermine is going to just sort of sit and waddle around the southwest of the country, not really moving very fast, but it is going to throw some wind and rain towards the UK.
“We’re not expecting anything quite as serious storm Eowyn, but certainly as miserable.”
