Spain is an extremely popular destination among British expats – and it’s easy to see why.
Famed for its sunny weather, beautiful beaches, delicious cuisine, low cost of living and slow pace of life, the European hotspot makes a refreshing change from the UK.
But no place is perfect and, despite the country’s many positives, there are also some downsides to living in Spain.
A British expat took to TikTok to share the “negative” aspects of life in a Spanish coastal town.

Geo in Spain (@geoinspain) warned that while she does love her home in Malaga, its popularity with tourists can prove irritating – particularly during the summer. The expat admitted: “There are some things I don’t like.”
Unsurprisingly, pubs and restaurants are “super busy” with visitors during this peak period, meaning those who live there can struggle to find seating.
“You’re probably going to have to make reservations for the places you would normally go without any trouble,” the expat warned.
She continued: “It’s the same with the beaches and pools. Obviously, everything gets super busy, so it’s good if you can plan your day out.”
The Briton in Spain recommended visiting popular spots earlier in the morning before most of the tourists get there.
“Or if you have a pool at home, just try to find solutions to get away from those problems,” she said.
During the high tourist season, residents may also find that securing a parking space is a challenge.
The expat revealed: “Parking in summer is horrendous – and I am just trying to go to work.
“I can never find parking because people come on holiday, leave their car there and don’t move it for a week.”
According to the expat, renting a parking space is very difficult, while buying is very costly.

Spanish locals have also expressed their concerns about overtourism in the country, prompting anti-tourist protests and new restrictions.
Fellow expats in Spain shared the main reasons why people leave the expat hub, naming “a really big problem”.
Alastair Johnson, an expat in Sitges, Spain, spoke exclusively to GB News about his move to the popular spot.
While he does love his new life, he believes there’s a problem with a popular Spanish tradition.
