Moving abroad is exciting but it can also be a daunting experience to leave your home country.

Speaking exclusively to GB News, a British expat shared advice for anyone looking to move.

Jonathan Williams swapped London for The Hague where he now lives with his family.

There are lots of pros and cons of moving abroad, but the expat shared advice to make the move more comfortable.

He said joining a group or club can be a great way to start building a community and life in the new country.

Jonathan told GB News: “If you look around there are usually expat groups or clubs you can join and you’ll meet a lot of new people quite quickly.”

Missing friends and family is one of the biggest challenges expats will face in a new country.

While it can be tempting to gravitate towards fellow Britons, Jonathan explained it is worth getting to know locals as well.

He said doing this can be a great way to integrate and find out what is worth doing in the area.

“Don’t just look for English nationals or expats,” Jonathan added.

“Try and meet some locals as they really know what’s going on around the area you’re in.

“I joined a group of Dutch people – who speak English too – who went to a weekly pub quiz and now I have a group of local Dutch friends too.”

Taking advice from people who have relocated can help expats to prepare. However, embracing your own experience is also important.

He added: “[Others] will share lots of ideas and advice.

“But also have your own experience as everyone’s situation and ideas are different.”

Jonathan, who runs Rosely Group, has shared what he loves the most about life in the Netherlands, including getting more space for his money.
