Big Tech mogul Elon Musk is reportedly discussing strategies with right-wing allies to oust U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer before the next general election.
Musk’s motivation stems from his belief that “Western civilization itself is threatened,” particularly about Starmer’s handling of the U.K. “grooming gangs” scandal.
Musk has criticized Starmer’s government for not properly addressing the historic cases of sexual exploitation of girls by gangs of mainly British-Pakistani men.
Musk is exploring ways to support alternative political movements, such as the right-wing Reform U.K. party, which has seen a recent surge in popularity.
Starmer denies Musk’s allegations, calling them “lies and misinformation” and citing his record of implementing new guidelines and reopening cases during his time as Crown Prosecution Service leader.
Elon Musk, SpaceX and Tesla CEO, has been reportedly discussing strategies with right-wing allies to oust U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer before the next general election.
Musk, known for his aggressive stances on social media and his close ties to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, is exploring ways to destabilize the U.K. Labor government beyond his controversial posts on X.
“What was done to thousands of defenseless little girls in Britain was vile beyond belief,” Musk wrote on X. “When the fathers of the little girls tried to save them, the authorities arrested their fathers,” he added, referring to cases like the notorious one in Rotherham.
The U.K.’s “grooming gangs” scandal, which came to light in 2011 after a series of reports by The Times, involved the systematic rape and torture of tens of thousands of underage girls in towns across northern England over two decades. Almost all of the perpetrators were Pakistani men and the victims were white British girls. Successive governments failed to investigate the scandal and several police departments covered up the existence of the gangs.
Musk has been vocal about his dissatisfaction, accusing Starmer of being “complicit” in the rape of Britain and referring to Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips as a “rape genocide apologist.”
In line with this, he has sought information on how to build support for alternative political movements, particularly the right-wing Reform U.K. party, which has seen a surge in popularity in recent months. Opinion polls suggest that Reform U.K. has the backing of 22 percent of the public, up from 14 percent at the time of the July election.
Starmer denies Musk’s allegations
Starmer, who led the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) from 2008 to 2013 during the height of the scandal, has vehemently denied these allegations, calling them “lies and misinformation.”
He has defended his record, citing the implementation of new guidelines to challenge myths and stereotypes that had previously hindered prosecutions. According to Starmer, he reopened cases that had been closed, initiated the first prosecution of an Asian grooming gang and revised guidance on child sexual exploitation in 2013 to facilitate future prosecutions.
Additionally, Starmer claimed that the CPS saw the highest number of child sex abuse prosecutions on record under his leadership.
However, a BBC investigation noted that “the prime minister referred only to the broad category of child sex abuse prosecution data” and that CPS records do not distinguish between sexual abuse perpetrated by gangs and abuse perpetrated by individuals. Offenders can be prosecuted for causing or facilitating sexual exploitation or for committing specific offenses like rape and indecent assault. The broadcaster also found that prosecutions under Starmer peaked at 4,794 between April 2010 and March 2011 but rose to 7,200 per year in 2016-2017, after Starmer left the CPS.
