Drivers warned of traffic chaos with delays on crucial motorway route

Traffic on the M2 eastbound between J5 Sittingbourne and J6 Faversham has been reported, in addition to growing queues.

According to Traffic England, the queues could continue for the coming hours with drivers sat in the rush hour delays.

Posting on social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, National Highways: South East informed drivers that delays would continue.

It confirmed that traffic officers and recovery agents were on the scene and working to clear the vehicle.

The statement estimated that drivers could expect lengthy delays on the approach as a result of the lane closure.

The M2 is one of the busiest motorways in the country with commuters using the road to get to London and around Kent.

Motorists have been told that normal conditions are expected after 11.15am later this morning.

Drivers across Kent have dealt with delays throughout the morning with Kent County Council Highways keeping drivers updated on social media.

It confirmed that slow-moving traffic was present on the A249 Southbound between A2 Key Street and M2 J5 (Stockbury Roundabout) and on the A2 London bound between M2 J1 and B255 Bean Lane.

Drainage works on the M2 between J5 and J7 are also having an impact on drivers with intermittent closures set to take place until July 2024.

Narrow lanes and reduced speed limits have been introduced on the coastbound carriageway since January 3 and on the London-bound carriageway after January 11.

These road measures are set to remain in place until the completion of the works in summer.

National Highways has also warned of severe delays on the A27 eastbound between the A270 (Falmer) and the B2123 (Amex Stadium).

This follows a collision between multiple vehicles, resulting in reduced capacity on the road network.

Sussex Police are at the scene with drivers being told to expect delays of up to 60 minutes on the approach at the current time.
