David Beckham has revealed the heartbreaking final four words he received from Sven-Goran Eriksson in their final conversation before the former England manager passed away.

The Swede revealed earlier this year that he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and said he had, ‘at best’, a year to live.

Eriksson embarked on an emotional farewell tour after revealing his diagnosis, visiting some of his former clubs as well as fulfilling a childhood dream of managing Liverpool in a charity match at Anfield.

An Amazon Prime documentary was released just last week where Eriksson shared a poignant goodbye message.

And the 49-year-old revealed what he was told by Eriksson in their final conversation together.

“We laughed, we cried and we knew we were saying goodbye,” he said.

“Sven thank you for always being the person you have always been, passionate, caring, calm and a true gentleman.

“A special man. Thanks for the memories and all your help and advice.

“Thoughts and prayers with all his family and friends.”

Michael Owen, who scored a hat-trick in arguably Eriksson’s most famous win as England manager in the 5-1 victory over Germany, similarly had high praise for his former boss.
