Celebrity Mastermind host Clive Myrie has been given a stern warning by the shows viewers to “get out” after slamming the “joke” celebrity line-up.

Myrie took over presenting Mastermind and spin-off Celebrity Mastermind in 2021 after John Humphry’s decided to step down after 18 years at the helm.

Taking the same format as the original series, Celebrity Mastermind sees famous faces take their place in the black chair in Britain’s toughest quiz.

Despite their reputation, Myrie doesn’t hold back with his fiendish questions and puts the pressure on as they compete to become the Celebrity Mastermind champion.

However, during a recent episode of the BBC quiz show many slammed the fact they didn’t know many of the “so-called” celebrities.

Former royal butler Paul Burrell, Emmerdale star Natalie Ann Jamieson, Amber Butchart of Great British Sewing Bee and Radio 1 DJ Dean McCullough faced the chair in a recent episode.

Their specialised subjects included Bette Davis, TV sitcom Absolutely Fabulous, the history of the British seaside and pop band Steps.

Just minutes into the show, viewers took to their X accounts to express their annoyance as one fumed: “There are too many people coming on #celebritymastermind who clearly know nothing about their specialist subject.

“Score less than 3 and you should have to put 10K of your own money into the charity pot.”

“Why oh why do they keep having non celebrities on mastermind?. It is destroying the shows reputation and is becoming a joke.

“If it’s too attract young reality show fans it’s making MM format a laughing stock. #celebritymastermind,” a second added.

“Who the hell are these ‘celebrities’ on #CelebrityMastermind?” another expressed before a fourth echoed: “When are the celebrities coming on?.

“This programme has become a joke. Clive, get out before your reputation is in tatters.”

The popular quiz show moved into a new Friday night slot at 8pm on BBC One last year, pulling in a larger audience.

Speaking highly of the show, Myrie said: “What I love about Celebrity Mastermind, is that our famous contenders are game for anything. Up for a grilling in the famous black chair.

“It’s wonderful entertainment helping out their favourite charities. Game on!”
