Britons are expected to experience sub-zero temperatures, while the Met Office has warned of “snow grains” across parts of the country.
Light rainfall is expected across Britain as the Met Office warn that, as the temperature drops, these showers could turn into snow grains, which are a very small form of solid precipitation, appearing like tiny opaque grains of rice.
Met Office Meteorologist Kathryn Chalk said: “Through this morning and into the afternoon, we hold onto a blanket of cloud across much of England and Wales. Some drizzly outbreaks pushing north, you may even see some snow grains.”
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued eight cold-health alerts across large parts of England, with warnings remaining in effect until Tuesday.

The alerts cover the north east, north west, east of England, Yorkshire and The Humber, East and West Midlands, London and the south east, as officials warn of “minor impacts on health and social care services” in most affected regions.
The alerts, which began on Friday at 6pm, will remain active until 9am on January 21, as health services are expected to see increased demand from vulnerable groups during this period.
She added that most sunshine will be limited to north and east Scotland.
Yorkshire and The Humber will prepare to face “potential significant impacts” across health and care services, with officials warning of increased mortality risks, particularly among those over 65 and those with existing health conditions.
Additionally, health services in northern areas are likely to experience increased demand and workforce disruptions, potentially affecting service delivery.

Temperatures plummeted to -2C on Friday night, with forecasts showing continued cold conditions across the country.
The cold snap will mean that it will be more challenging to keep indoor temperatures as warm as the recommended 18C, putting vulnerable individuals at higher risk.
The south and south east of England will struggle to reach above 3C today, whilst the Midlands and northern England hover around 1C to 2C.
Milder conditions are expected in the south west of England and Wales, with temperatures reaching 6C.
Scotland is more varied, with Glasgow and Edinburgh reaching 6C, while the Scottish Highlands could see temperatures as high as 9C.
Northern Ireland is also experiencing relatively warmer conditions, with similar temperatures expected into the afternoon.

From Tuesday onwards, the UK will see generally cloudy conditions, with rain patches moving eastward from the west.
