A British Airways flight bound for London was forced to turn back to Dubai after toxic fumes filled the cabin on Friday.

Flight BA0108, which had been scheduled for an eight-hour journey to Heathrow, had to divert whilst at 30,000 feet.

The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner returned to Dubai International Airport just one hour and 44 minutes after take-off, where emergency crews were waiting on the runway.

Emergency crews, including firefighters and paramedics, met the aircraft when it landed at Dubai International Airport at 2.57pm local time.

A British Airways spokesman said: “The aircraft returned to Dubai International Airport due to a minor technical issue.

“The vast majority of customers were rebooked onto same-day alternative flights to get them to their destination as soon as possible.”

The airline confirmed that no crew members required hospital treatment following the incident.

One passenger told The Sun: “It was clear there was little preparation for such an event.”

The incident marks another challenge for British Airways this year, following a dramatic event last month at São Paulo-Guarulhos Airport in Brazil.

During severe floods, lightning struck the tail of a BA Airbus A350 whilst it was attached to a jet bridge.

A viral video captured multiple lightning strikes hitting the London-bound aircraft.

The plane was delayed for safety inspections before eventually completing its journey to the UK, with 21 other flights redirected due to extreme weather.
