British Airways is set to expand its Italian network with three new routes launching in summer of 2025.

The flag carrier will introduce flights from London Heathrow to Rimini, Gatwick to Salerno, and London City to Olbia.

The expansion, which brings BA’s total Italian destinations to 19, comes as the airline reports a 10 per cent surge in searches for Italian summer flights compared to 2023.

The new Rimini service will start on 15 May 2025, operating three times weekly on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays from Heathrow.

Located in the Emilia-Romagna region, Rimini offers more than 15km of sandy beaches along the Adriatic Sea.

The historic city boasts ancient landmarks including the Arch of Augustus from 27 BC and the first-century Tiberius Bridge.

Return fares start from £131, with flights running until September 27 2025.

BA Euroflyer will operate thrice-weekly flights to Salerno from Gatwick starting May 22 2025, with services on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

The Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport, which opened to commercial flights in July 2024, serves as a new gateway to the famous Amalfi Coast.

The destination offers easy access to popular coastal towns including Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello.

Return flights are available from £168, with services running until October 25 2025.

British Airways will add a new London City service to Olbia, complementing its existing Heathrow flights to the Sardinian destination.

The weekly service begins May 25 2025, increasing to twice weekly on Wednesdays and Sundays from 16 July.

Olbia, on Sardinia’s northeastern coast, is known for its historic sites, local markets, and proximity to the prestigious Costa Smeralda.

Return fares start from £116, with flights operating until 28 September 2025.

Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, highlighted Italy’s enduring appeal to travellers.

“Italy continues to prove hugely popular with our customers, which is why it’s our biggest European destination, and second globally behind the US,” he said.

“We’re pleased to be offering an even bigger choice of destinations next year.

“Rimini, Salerno and Olbia are all coastal destinations, so we expect them to be particularly popular with our leisure customers seeking sun, sea, and of course Italy’s fantastic food.”
